I just finished reading Brene’ Brown’s new book, Braving the Wilderness by Brene’ Brown. Admittedly, I love her wisdom, her voice and her challenges. She dedicates an entire chapter of her book to the idea that it’s near impossible to get angry with a person with a different worldview, whom you know close-up. I guess means it is important to get close to a lot of different stories…and a the people who know those stories.

One of the best ways to stay informed on issues that affect ‘the other’ is to read–on a variety of topics: Food, religion, politics, finances, the housing market, the news, how-to guides, whatever–each offer perspectives worth entertaining.

As difficult as it may be, try tuning in every now and then to podcast or interview on a topic you feel lukewarm about–or one you completely disagree with– and hear out a perspective that may be foreign to you. *Maybe we start alone in our cars/on the bus/on a run, so that we can practice engaging in respectful dialogue with people who think differently.
