Perhaps the most mundane and efficient way to reduce waste, is not to pick it up in the first place. Plastic bags accompany nearly every shopping trip we take–some stores who take their work especially seriously, will double bag all of your bags. Leaving you with a quickly-mulitiplying load of bags that aren’t good for much of anything.
Huffington Post did an interesting story on these bags and what happens to them about five months ago. The truth is, although options for recycling these totes are next to the door at most shopping facilities, it’s estimated that 3% of folks actually bring their bags in to be recycled.
In short, watch for those signs in the parking lot reminding shoppers to bring in reusable bags. Each cloth bag saves an estimated 1,000 plastic bags in its lifetime of use. Link in profile. #recyclereducereuse #cloth
